Sekinchan is a small town on the west coast of Malaysia. It’s home to the Paddy Processing Factory, with a museum about the local rice industry. The elaborate Nan Tian Temple sits in one of the town's many rice fields. Near Redang Beach, the Wishing Tree is draped with red ribbons. Just south, the fishing village of Bagan has many seafood restaurants. The area is also a shelter for migratory birds, such as herons.
0900hrs – start your day with pick-up form hotel in Kuala Lumpur, travel 59 miles northwest of the city center. Enjoy views of palm trees along the coastal road before you reach the fishing and farming hamlet of Sekinchan. Upon arrival, take in the gorgeous view of the verdant paddy fields and if you are lucky, spot migratory birds from Sumatra soaring through the air. Then, head to a local restaurant to feast on a delicious seafood lunch. In Sekinchan, originally a fishing village, you can guarantee your lunch is freshly prepared from the best produce in the area. After lunch, make your way to Kuala Selangor, about a 30-minute drive away. Visit Melawati Hill, famously the home of mischievous and mysterious silvered leaf monkeys, a primate of the Old World monkeys. Before returning to Kuala Lumpur, learn about local history at Fort Altingsburg, built by the state ruler to defend the city from foreign invasion, and admire the renowned lighthouse.
